Mold
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000239
A hollow form or cavity into which a liquid or pliable material is poured or pressed to create a part in a desired shape as it solidifies. Additive manufacturing is used to directly print molds, a process known as direct tooling, for injection molding or casting, particularly for low-volume production runs. Molds are also created indirectly by printing a pattern, which is then used to form a final mold through a secondary process like investment casting.
