Orthotropic
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000257
Describing a material that exhibits different mechanical properties along three mutually perpendicular axes, often due to the layered nature of additive manufacturing processes. This anisotropy means that strength, stiffness, and other characteristics vary depending on the direction of applied force relative to the build orientation. Wood is a naturally orthotropic material.
