Z-direction
Term · Additive manufacturing and 3D printing · MLC-T-ADM-000421
The vertical orientation or dimension along the Z-axis in an additive manufacturing process. This direction corresponds to the layer-by-layer build-up of a part, where each new layer is added on top of the previous one. Mechanical properties of 3D printed parts often exhibit anisotropy, with different strengths and characteristics in the Z-direction compared to the X-Y plane.
