Adiabatic ionization
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000251
The process of removing an electron from a molecule or atom to form an ion, where the resulting ion is in its lowest vibrational and rotational energy state (its ground state). This ionization occurs without any change in the vibrational or rotational quantum numbers of the molecule. The energy required for adiabatic ionization is known as the adiabatic ionization energy.
