Algicide

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000382

A chemical substance or mixture specifically formulated to kill or suppress the growth of algae in aquatic environments. These biocides are applied to control unwanted algal blooms in water bodies like swimming pools, cooling towers, and reservoirs, which can cause discoloration, odors, and filter blockages. The effectiveness and environmental impact of an algicide depend on its active ingredient, such as copper sulfate, quaternary ammonium compounds, or polyquats, and the specific conditions of the water body.
