Aufwuchs

A complex community of microorganisms, algae, fungi, and detritus that grows on submerged surfaces in aquatic environments. This biofilm serves as a primary food source for many aquatic invertebrates and fish. The composition of aufwuchs varies significantly depending on water chemistry, light availability, and substrate type.
