Deposit feeder

An aquatic organism that obtains its nutrition by consuming organic matter, detritus, and microorganisms found in sediments or on surfaces. These feeders typically ingest large quantities of substrate and digest the organic components. Many benthic invertebrates, such as sea cucumbers and some worms, are deposit feeders.
