Ankyloglossia

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000621

A congenital oral anomaly characterized by an abnormally short, thick, or tight lingual frenulum, the band of tissue that tethers the tongue's underside to the floor of the mouth. This condition, sometimes called 'tongue-tie', can restrict the tongue's range of motion. The severity is assessed based on the tongue's ability to protrude and elevate, and surgical correction by frenotomy may be considered.
