Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000875

A complete or partial collapse of a lung or a lobe of a lung, occurring when the alveoli within the lung become deflated or filled with fluid. This condition prevents the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide, leading to reduced lung volume and impaired breathing. It can be caused by airway obstruction, pressure from outside the lung, or insufficient surfactant.
