Chain initiation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001842
The initial step in a chain reaction where active species, such as free radicals or ions, are formed from stable molecules. These active species then propagate the chain by reacting with other stable molecules. This step requires an input of energy, often from heat, light, or a chemical initiator, to break bonds and create the first chain carriers.
