Density of states

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003004

The number of available electronic or vibrational states per unit interval of energy at a given energy level within a system. It is a property of a system that quantifies how densely packed the quantum states are. The density of states, often denoted as g(E) or ρ(E), is a central quantity in solid-state physics for calculating properties like specific heat, conductivity, and optical absorption.
