Sum of states
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011578
The total number of accessible quantum states of a system, such as a molecule or a collection of molecules, at a specific energy. It is calculated by counting all possible states up to and including that energy level. This quantity, denoted as W(E), is distinct from the density of states, which represents the number of states per unit energy interval at a given energy.
