Initial state correlations

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005863

A statistical link between the final quantum states of a reaction's products and the starting states of its reactants, whether defined by energy level, quantum numbers, or symmetry. It shows how the reactants' initial energy distribution is carried into particular product states, and it is studied in molecular-beam and state-to-state reaction dynamics experiments. A strong correlation means the product state distribution depends sharply on the reactant state.
