Initial rate method
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013193
A kinetic analysis technique that determines the reaction rate immediately after mixing reactants, before product accumulation or reactant depletion substantially alters the concentrations. This approach simplifies the rate law by allowing the assumption that reactant concentrations are effectively constant at their initial values. The initial rate is typically measured by monitoring the change in concentration of a reactant or product over a short time interval.
