Initial plasma radiation zone

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005862

The region immediately above the load coil in an inductively-coupled plasma (ICP) where the sample aerosol is first introduced and begins to interact with the high-temperature plasma. This zone is characterized by intense continuum emission and is where the initial desolvation and atomization of the sample occur. It is typically not used for analytical measurements in ICP optical emission spectroscopy due to high background.
