Emission standard

A legally enforceable limit on the amount or concentration of a pollutant that is permitted to be discharged from a specific source into the environment. These regulations are set by governmental authorities to control air, water, and soil pollution and protect public health and ecosystems. Emission standards are source-specific and may specify the maximum quantity of a substance per unit of time or per unit of production.
