Guideline for exposure limits

A recommended concentration of a chemical substance in a medium like air, water, or food, intended to protect human health from adverse effects. These values are developed by scientific or regulatory bodies based on toxicological data but are not legally enforceable unless incorporated into regulation. Examples include the Threshold Limit Values (TLVs) from the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists.
