Discharge standard

A legally enforceable limit on the quantity or concentration of a specific pollutant permitted in an effluent released from a source into the environment. These standards are set by regulatory agencies to control pollution and protect public health and ecosystems. Discharge standards are expressed as mass per unit time, such as kilograms per day, or as a maximum concentration, such as milligrams per liter.
