Discharge
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003276
A release of effluent or other waste that enters a river, lake, sea or the air at one identifiable location, such as the outfall pipe of an industrial plant or of a wastewater treatment works. Diffuse inputs such as agricultural runoff are a separate category, since they have no single outlet. The volume and composition of a discharge are usually limited by a permit.
