Whole-effluent toxicity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012695
The aggregate toxic effect of an entire wastewater discharge, rather than individual components, on aquatic organisms. This is assessed by exposing test organisms to samples of the effluent and observing their survival, growth, or reproduction. Whole-effluent toxicity tests are used in regulatory frameworks to evaluate the overall impact of discharges on receiving waters.
