Euler-Lotka equation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013084
A mathematical formula used in population ecology and ecotoxicology to calculate the intrinsic rate of natural increase (r) for a population with age-specific birth and death rates. The equation relates this rate to the net reproductive rate and mean generation time, providing a quantitative measure of population growth under specific environmental conditions. It is applied in risk assessment to model the potential effects of toxicants on the long-term viability of a population.
