Exact mass
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004142
The mass of an ion calculated using the exact masses of its constituent isotopes, rather than the average atomic weights. This value is highly specific to a particular elemental composition and isotopic distribution. It is used in high-resolution mass spectrometry to determine the elemental formula of a compound with high precision.
