Hansch analysis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005090

A quantitative structure-activity method in which the biological potency of a series of related compounds is expressed as a regression equation in physicochemical descriptors, using the linear free-energy relationships of physical organic chemistry. Typical terms are the hydrophobic parameter π or log P, the Hammett electronic constant σ and a steric parameter such as Taft's Es. Corwin Hansch developed the approach in the 1960s.
