Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005732
A condition in which female gastropods develop male reproductive organs, such as a penis and a vas deferens, superimposed upon their normal female anatomy. This endocrine disruption is an indicator of environmental pollution, particularly by organotin compounds like tributyltin. The severity of the condition is often measured on a scale, such as the Vas Deferens Sequence Index, which correlates organ development with pollutant concentration.
