External genitalia

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004268

The reproductive organs that are visible on the outside of the body. In male mammals, these structures comprise the penis and the scrotum, while in females, they include the vulva, which consists of the labia, clitoris, and vaginal opening. The proper development of these organs during gestation is dependent on hormonal signals, making them an endpoint for assessing the effects of potential endocrine disruptors in reproductive toxicology studies.
