Anogenital distance
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000633
A body measurement taken from the anus to the base of the external genitalia, which is longer in males than in females in many mammals, humans included. Because androgen action during fetal development sets the difference, a shortened distance in males is read as a sign of feminisation and used as a marker of prenatal exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Rodent toxicity studies record it in newborn pups.
