Interval analysis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005998

A numerical method that computes with intervals of real numbers rather than with single numerical values, designed to manage and propagate uncertainties in calculations. Each variable and parameter is represented by a range, and arithmetic operations are defined to produce a new interval that is guaranteed to contain the true result. This contrasts with least-squares techniques, which provide a single best-fit value and a statistical estimate of its uncertainty.
