Investigational new drug

A new drug or biological product that has not yet been approved by a regulatory authority for marketing but is under investigation in clinical trials. This designation allows for the shipment of the drug across state lines for clinical testing. An Investigational New Drug application (IND) must be filed with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before human clinical trials can begin.
