Isomeric state
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006202
An excited nuclear state with a measurable lifetime, significantly longer than that of ordinary excited states, often exceeding 10^-9 seconds. These states arise from large differences in angular momentum between the isomeric state and lower-energy states, hindering gamma-ray transitions. The decay of an isomeric state to a lower energy state is known as an isomeric transition.
