Prompt gamma radiation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009539
Gamma rays emitted almost instantaneously, within approximately 10^-12 seconds, following a nuclear reaction or radioactive decay. These photons arise from the de-excitation of excited nuclear states formed during the initial event. Prompt gamma radiation is distinct from delayed gamma radiation, which is emitted later from longer-lived excited states.
