Prompt neutrons
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009541
Neutrons emitted directly from the fission process within an extremely short time, typically less than 10^-14 seconds, after a nucleus undergoes fission. These neutrons are responsible for sustaining a nuclear chain reaction. They are distinguished from delayed neutrons, which are emitted by fission products after a measurable delay.
