Prompt gamma-ray analysis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009540

A nuclear analytical technique that measures the gamma rays emitted almost instantaneously when atomic nuclei in a sample capture neutrons. The energies and intensities of these gamma rays give the elemental composition, and the method is especially sensitive for hydrogen, boron, nitrogen, chlorine and cadmium. It is non-destructive and is often used for bulk analysis of materials.
