Macrostomia

A congenital anomaly characterized by an unusually wide mouth resulting from the failure of the maxillary and mandibular processes to fuse properly at the corners of the mouth during embryonic development. This condition, also known as transverse facial cleft, presents as a lateral cleft extending from the corner of the mouth toward the ear. It is a rare birth defect that may occur as an isolated finding or as part of a broader genetic syndrome.
