Macrosomia
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006895
A condition in which a newborn is significantly larger than average for its gestational age, also known as large for gestational age (LGA). This is defined by a birth weight above the 90th percentile for the population or exceeding a specific absolute weight, such as 4,000 or 4,500 grams. Maternal diabetes mellitus is a common cause, but exposure to certain environmental chemicals during development is also a suspected risk factor.
