Measurement

The process of experimentally obtaining one or more quantity values that can reasonably be attributed to a measurand. This involves comparing the measurand to a reference standard or using a calibrated instrument. The result of a measurement is expressed as a quantity value, which includes a numerical value and a unit of measurement, such as 5.2 meters.
