Uncertainty of measurement

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012418

A non-negative parameter attached to a measurement result that describes how widely the values reasonably attributable to the quantity being measured are spread, expressing the incomplete knowledge of that quantity's value. It is stated as a standard deviation, called the standard uncertainty, or as a multiple of one, as in the expanded uncertainty obtained with a coverage factor of 2, which corresponds to about 95 percent coverage.
