Method of multiple working hypotheses
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007278
A scientific approach that involves developing several distinct hypotheses to explain a phenomenon, rather than focusing on a single explanation. This method encourages a more objective investigation by simultaneously testing and comparing the alternatives, reducing the risk of confirmation bias toward a favored theory. The process involves formulating each hypothesis, deducing their testable consequences, and conducting experiments or observations to eliminate those that are inconsistent with the evidence.
