Weight-of-evidence for toxicity
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012673
A process for evaluating the totality of scientific data to reach a conclusion about the potential toxicity of a substance. This approach considers multiple lines of evidence, including results from epidemiological studies, animal experiments, in vitro assays, and knowledge of chemical structure and mechanism of action. The method is used by regulatory agencies like the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to classify carcinogens under its Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS).
