Criterion

A standard or principle by which something is judged, evaluated, or decided, often used in scientific research to establish thresholds or conditions. In toxicology, a criterion might define an acceptable level of exposure to a substance or a specific biological response indicating toxicity. These standards are frequently established by regulatory bodies based on scientific evidence.
