Niche

The set of environmental conditions, including physical, chemical, and biological factors, that allow a species to maintain a viable population. It encompasses an organism's functional role within its ecosystem, including its interactions with other species and its use of resources. The concept is distinguished from a habitat, which is only the physical location where a species lives, by including the organism's complete set of interactions.
