Minimum viable population
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007402
The smallest number of individuals of a species that has a high probability of persisting for a specified period, despite the foreseeable effects of demographic, environmental, and genetic stochasticity. This concept is central to conservation biology and risk assessment for endangered species. It is often estimated using population viability analysis models.
