Minimum structural change, principle of
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007401
The principle that a reaction is expected to occur with the fewest bond changes, meaning the fewest bonds made or broken and the least redistribution of electrons, so that a substitution replaces one group without altering the rest of the skeleton. Reactions that violate it by changing connectivity, such as skeletal rearrangements, are the ones classed as molecular rearrangements.
