Migration
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007377
The intramolecular movement of an atom or group of atoms from one position to another within the same molecule during a chemical reaction. This rearrangement often involves the breaking and formation of bonds, leading to a new structural isomer. A common example is the 1,2-shift of a hydride or alkyl group in carbocation rearrangements.
