Optical throughput

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008280

A measure of the light-gathering power of an optical instrument, representing the product of the area of the entrance aperture and the solid angle of acceptance. It quantifies the amount of light that can pass through the system. Higher throughput generally leads to better signal-to-noise ratios in spectroscopy.
