Percentage exposed

The fraction of the total number of atoms of a given element in a catalyst that are present on the surface and thus accessible for reaction. This value is often determined by chemisorption measurements, where a known amount of gas adsorbs onto the active sites. The percentage exposed provides insight into the dispersion of the active component on a support material.
