Polyisocyanurate

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009153

A polymer characterized by the presence of isocyanurate rings in the main chain, produced through the cyclic trimerization of isocyanate monomers. The resulting structure is a highly cross-linked, rigid thermosetting network, which imparts excellent thermal stability and fire resistance. Polyisocyanurate is distinct from polyurethane, although they share isocyanate precursors; polyisocyanurate has a higher proportion of isocyanate and is formed at higher temperatures with specific trimerization catalysts, leading to a more brittle but thermally superior material.
