Polyisocyanide
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009152
A polymer prepared from isocyanide monomers, in which each monomer contributes a single carbon atom to the backbone and that carbon carries a pendant imino group, so the repeat unit is C(=NR). Steric crowding of the side groups forces the chain into a rigid helix, and most polyisocyanides are helical polymers. Nickel(II) complexes are the classic catalysts for the polymerization.
