Preputial separation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009404

A developmental event in male mammals where the prepuce, or foreskin, detaches from the glans penis to which it is fused at birth. The timing of this event is an indicator of the onset of puberty and is used as a morphological marker in reproductive and developmental toxicology studies. In rats used for testing, separation occurs between 40 and 50 days of age.
