Quantity of dimension one

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009756

A quantity whose dimensional expression has an exponent of zero for every base quantity, so its value is a pure number. Ratios of two quantities of the same kind, such as refractive index, relative permittivity and mass fraction, are examples, as are counts of entities and characteristic numbers such as the Reynolds number. The coherent SI unit is the number one, written 1 and normally left out when a value is stated.
