Quantized internal energy

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009757

The discrete energy levels associated with the internal motions of a molecule, such as vibrational, rotational, and electronic states. These energy levels are not continuous but can only take on specific, distinct values according to quantum mechanics. Transitions between these levels are responsible for the absorption and emission of electromagnetic radiation in spectroscopy.
